Live-action movies/films are those movies/films which use real person or animals instead of animation in the cinematography or videography process. In these movies, both real actors and cartoons exist in the same frame, unlike animation. Let’s us have a look at the list of Disney’s live-action movie remakes till date.
The Jungle Book (1994)
Directed by Stephen Sommers, the “Jungle Book” is an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling classic story of a boy named Mowgli, who end up in the jungle when his father got killed by a tiger. The boy gets raised by wolves years later he reunites with his childhood love Kitty and then drawn to the human world where he is taken advantage for a lost treasure by Kitty’s fiancé a ruthless soldier.
101 Dalmatians (1996)
This 1996 live-action comedy film is an adaptation of the 1961 animated movie based on Dodie Smith’s novel “The Hundred and One Dalmatians”. Directed by Stephen Herek, “101 Dalmatians” tells the story of Cruella De Vil, an evil and glamorous fashion designer who wants to create herself a coat from the skin of the actual Dalmatians. So she plans plots to steal the Dalmatians puppies and while in the pursuit we see some adventures of the puppies.
Alice in Wonderland (2010)
The magical world of Alice is once again relieved by director Tim Burton in the 2010 live-action adventure film “Alice in Wonderland”. Here the nineteen years old Alice returns to his friends to the magical world to end the Red Queen portrayed by Helena Bonham.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (2010)
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turteltaub in the 2010 action-fantasy film “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” set in modern-day Manhattan tells the story of master sorcerer Balthazar Blake who must find and train the magician Merlin descendant. Blake reluctantly recruits Dave Stutler, a physics geek as his protégé and starts to train him to defeat the evil sorceress Morgana la Fée. This movie took inspiration from a segment in Walt Disney’s “Fantasia” (1940).
Oscar winner Angelina Jolie played the title role in “Maleficent” which tells the story of Sleeping Beauty from the villain’s perspective. Angelina Jolie plays the evil, vengeful fairy who put a curse to an infant princess Aurora and put her to deep sleep only to be awakened by a true love’s kiss. Maleficent later realises that the princess might be the one to restore peace in their troubled land.
The folk tale of a girl named Ella and her cruel stepmother and stepsisters is portrayed in the film “Cinderella” by Kenneth Branagh. “Cinderella” is a live-action remake of the 1950 animated film of the same name. Lily James played the role of Cinderella and the evil stepmother played by Cate Blanchette. Ella’s life change for the better after meeting a dashing Prince and with help from a fairy godmother.
The Jungle Book (2016)
Mowgli a young boy raised by the wolves embarks on a journey of self-discovery after a threat from Sher Khan, the tiger to leave the jungle, his home. The “Jungle Book” is a live-action/CGI adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book” directed by Jon Favreau. Neel Sethi plays Mowgli and voices by Bill Murry, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, Scarlett Johansson, Lupita Nyong’o, Christopher Walken and Giancarlo Esposito.
Pete’s Dragon (2016)
“Pete’s Dragon” is a story of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliot, a dragon. The film is a remake of 1977 Pete’s Dragon a live-action animated musical. David Lowery directed the movie and co-wrote with Toby Halbrooks and produced by James Whitaker.
Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016)
In the movie, Alice returns to the magical world of Wonderland where she had to travel through time to save Mad Hatter. She finds that Hatter is in a horrible state than usual after discovering the truth about his family. “Alice Through the Looking Glass” is the sequel to Alice in Wonderland (2010) based on Lewis Carroll characters. The film was directed by James Bobin and starred Johnny Depp, Ann Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter.
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
The “Beauty and the Beast “is a musical fantasy film directed by Bill Condon a live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1991 animated film of the same name. It features Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast and several ensemble casts. The beautiful and independent young Bella is taken prisoner by a cruel and selfish Beast who is cursed to become a monster until he learns to love and loved back in return.
Christopher Robin (2018)
Ewan McGregor is the central character playing the title role in this movie directed by Marc Forster. He is a working-class family man who reunites with his childhood friend Winnie the Pooh who helps him rediscover his lost happiness in life.
Mary Poppins Returns (2018)
This live-action movie directed by Rob Marshall is based on the book series “Mary Poppins” by P. L. Travers. Emily Blunt plays Mary Poppins in the remake of the 1964 film of the same name. The film showed London during the depression period in the 1930s. The actors in the movie are Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth and Meryl Streep.
